Specs & Pricing

Walrus Julia Chorus is one of the most popular high-quality pedals available on the market right now. The guitar effect features four knobs (rate, depth, lag and D-C-V) and a wave switch.

Here’s what they do:

  • Rate – allows you to control the speed of the main LFO
  • Depth – affects the strength of vibrato and chorus
  • Lag – controls the center delay time
  • D-C-V – controls the ratio of dry to wet signal

When it comes to tone, the pedal offers a maximum versatility. It really allows you to experiment with your sound, so whether you’re into chorus or vibrato, you’ll be amazed of the amount of tonal possibilities that this tiny piece of gear can produce.

In addition, the pedal offers a really cool and unique design. Undoubtedly, it will be a really eye-catching element of your pedalboard.

The pricing is not cheap, but in the end – it’s Walrus Audio. They’re one of the best pedal manufacturers in the world, so this price level is not surprising. Although it’s expensive, it’s definitely worth it.

Here’s the official sound demo – feel free to check it out.

Who Is It For?

Walrus Julia Chorus will be perfect for the vast majority of guitarists. Since it’s so versatile, it will work well in most of music genres.

Undoubtedly, this pedal will be really appealing to all lovers of lo-fi, indie, dream pop and alternative rock music. Julia gives you access to that indie tone that every indie lover is dreaming of!

In addition, it will work well during live performances or studio appearances. If you’re a professional musician and you’re looking for a high quality chorus for your future recordings, this is the way to go.

My Experience With Walrus Julia

I had the pleasure to use this pedal on a few occasions and to be honest, it made a stunning impression on me. Although it sounds quite thin, it creates so many possibilities! If you’re into indie or lo-fi and dream pop music like me, you will definitely enjoy it.

I’m planning to do a video comparison of Walrus Julia and Julianna on my YouTube channel in the nearest few weeks. If you’re reading this article a few months after I actually wrote it, there’s a high chance that it’s there, so feel free to check it out and don’t forget to click the subscribe button!

Disadvantages Of Walrus Julia

The main disadvantage of Julia pedal is the fact that it’s quite expensive. On the other hand, cheaper pedals made by other pedal manufacturers may not be as good as this pedal. Personally, I don’t think it’s either overpriced or underpriced.

Surely, it’s not a cheap piece of gear, but it it’s one of the best chorus pedals out there. It is pretty obvious that more affordable chorus pedals by such companies as TC Electronic or JHS may not be as versatile as Walrus Julia.

Additionally, for some people this pedal may sound a bit too thin. If you’re a lover of a really thick chorus tone, the Walrus Julia may not be the best choice for you.

Upgraded Version – Walrus Julianna

For those who don’t know, Walrus recently announced a new chorus pedal called Julianna. This is an upgraded version of Julia and it’s a little bit more expensive. The additional features include the tap tempo control, waveform selection and expression pedal control. Overall, it’s even more versatile than Julia.

Is it worth it? Well, that depends what you’re looking for. If you’re searching for a reliable chorus pedal, Julia will do the job anyway. But if you like the vibrato tone of this pedal and you’re looking for more tonal possibilities, Julianna may be a better choice.

Here’s the official sound demo.

Cheaper Alternatives

If you’re on a tight budget and you think that either Walrus Julia or Julianna is not a right fit for you, there’s still a few good alternatives out there.

Firstly, you should definitely check out the JHS 3 Series Chorus (here’s the link to Amazon). It’s not as expensive as Julia and Julianna and it still features a relatively high quality. On the other hand, its tonal possibilities are fairly limited.

Additionally, you can also check out the Corona Mini by TC Electronic (here’s the link to Amazon). It’s an another really cool and affordable option, but again – it’s not as good as Julia and Julianna.

Personally, I think that it is really worth it to save up more money to eventually get one of the pedals by Walrus Audio. Their quality is really on point and it’s really difficult to be disappointed with their quality and attention to detail.

That’s why I highly recommend getting either Julia or Julianna instead of these two cheaper pedals mentioned above!
